About LOPSA - Austin
LOPSA - Austin is the central Texas chapter of LOPSA. Our focus is on building a local community of system administrators who can share their experiences, solutions, tips and techniques on addressing technical and professional issues they encounter. What seperates LOPSA from a hobbyist or enthusiast organization is that we are the for-pay persons who are on the hook for production systems be they small-business or Fortune 100. LOPSA membership is not required for attendance and participation in LOPSA-Austin, but joining LOPSA is strongly encouraged.
We are a platform agnostic organization, like LOPSA itself, and we welcome and encourage network managers, Windows and UNIX systems administrators, desktop support technicians, and anyone else that manages computer systems, regardless of experience or skill level, to join us on our mailing list and at our monthly meetings.
Meetings
LOPSA - Austin is currently holding monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday of every month at Mangia Pizza on Guadalupe Street.
Bring questions about projects you are working on, notes from conferences, thoughts on articles you've read, words of wisdom, war stories, or just kick back and listen. Drop by for half an hour, or stay for the whole thing. Meetings tend to run anywhere from two to three hours, sometimes longer if the group refuses to break-up. Everyone is invited, regardless of organization membership!
The on-campus meeting facilities are conducive to technical discussion and presentations. While the group meets there for the start of the meetings, after some time the group retires to a local pub for dinner grub and after-work libations. So it pays to be timely so one does not missout on the pub grub and drink.
